Spore pour MARS 2007 ???Electronic Arts' (Nasdaq: ERTS) "Spore" is one title in particular that stirred up a lot of excitement at this year's GC. Made by "The Sims" creator Will Wright, this title has been wooing gamers ever since it was first debuted at E3 in 2005.
Starting as a single-cell organism, players gradually add appendages to these primitive creatures, allowing them to leave the relative calm of the primordial soup and take their first steps on land. This is only the beginning, however, as "Spore" gives players the ability to actively determine every aspect of their creature's life through six stages of evolutionary history, which culminates in the exploration and colonization of space. It is also in this sixth and final stage, as Wright has conceded, that the game really begins.
By combining offline with online content, a player has the ability to download other players' cities, buildings and entire planets to his local hard drive. This gives "Spore" almost limitless playability. Unfortunately, despite its online capabilities, "Spore" does not allow players to engage one another in cooperative or competitive play. However, this seems to be of little concern, and given the reception this game has already received, it's pretty safe to say that "Spore" is poised to make a huge splash when it is released on PC in March 2007.
